Dear All, ASD is one of the commonest congenital heart diseases, often diagnosed by chance in adulthood. It is usually well tolerated when young but may have consequences of arrhythmias, heart failure and pulmonary hypertension when older, leading to morbidity and disability. There is always a dilemma whether, when and how to treat it ie close the ASD. There are also variants of ASD which may have a less benign course and need treatment early in life to prevent Eisenmenger syndrome supervening and altering the natural history.
To discuss all these issues Dr Samad will be presenting a case of ASD, followed by discussion and we will end with a short didactic presentation, as per the usual format.
